Exciting Stuff!

I got myself a job today! A real, adult, career-type job; I'm so happy. The job is everything I wanted - full time (not a contract position), in my city, field work but with minimal long trips away from home. It even has a full list of benefits and the employer was named the 14th best place to work in Canada, so I think I hit the job jackpot. I'm  so happy I could burst! I start in a few weeks, so I even have a vacation before I begin working. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Forever ago, Gretch TM tagged me to list my 10 favourite things - thank you so much for tagging me! I am very flattered. I had a lot of fun making the list so I hope you enjoy it.

1. My cat Artemis - she is pretty cute.

 2. My purse - I don't have many purses, so I usually am seen with this purse.

 3. Knitting. I know this is an activity and not a thing, but I love everything to do with knitting - the fibre, the craft, the art. I knit a lot.

4. My coffee mug. Cale got it for me for Christmas and I love it to bits.

5. Beer! Cale is really into beer, so I am exposed to a wide variety of styles. Beer has become one of my favourite beverages.

6. Reading! Right now I'm just finishing up Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.

7. Jigsaw puzzles. I have always had a soft spot for them - I just love the challenge and the satisfaction of the pieces clicking together.

8. My PS3. I'm a big fan of video games and the console is a great media centre, so this is one of my most useful possessions.

 9. My laptop. It is small, can run some pretty good video games and is so very portable.

10. Cale, my boyfriend because he's my best friend.

Election

Today in Canada there was a federal election resulting in a Conservative majority with the NDP as the official opposition; this is a big deal because the NDP has never been the federal ruling party or opposition party. The Conservatives were able to get their majority with only 40% of the popular vote, so essentially 60% of the voting population's representatives are moot. The next 4 years should be very interesting and depressing, indeed. On a cheerier note, I recently found this dress in a local online community for $20 (including shipping) - a pretty good score, considering how well it fits. My favourite detail on the dress is the buttons - black with a subtle etched anchor.

Playing Housewife

Today was my first day being completely free of obligation - no school, no work, no nothing! It was so freeing, yet felt so weird at the same time. I've had a job guaranteed to me over the summer for the last few years, so not having a job lined up right now feels sort of weird. I do have some leads at the moment so I know I will have a job soon, which is reassuring. With Cale at work today I got the chance to play housewife - doing the dishes, watching soaps & game shows, knitting and running errands - and it was great. I've been really neglecting housework lately, so I'm  excited to having time to sort through and organize things, cleaning as necessary. It's a lot of work, but the payoff will be so worth it (namely unearthing my blocking/sewing table!). Happy summer, everyone!

Wrinkled Red

At Value Village on the weekend, I was so happy to find a nice, simple/casual red knee-length skirt in my size.  Red is my favourite colour, bar none, but I really don't have much of it in my wardrobe. Unfortunately it's a little wrinkle-y in the photos - please excuse the wrinkles! I should have ironed it but I was just so excited to wear it today that it slipped my mind until, to my dismay, I saw the wrinkles in the photos.

Back!

My sincerest apologies for my much longer hiatus. School kind of steamrolled me for the last two weeks, so I haven't had the energy or brain power to make a post. This dress you've seen before, but it was not in the spotlight in that post. I really enjoy this dress; I scored it in a LiveJournal clothing sale for $8 (if I remember correctly). I just wish I was a tad shorter so that I didn't have to wear shorts to prevent bum flashes. My favourite parts of this dress are the colour (I don't have many black dresses), the sweet Peter Pan collar, the buttons and the adorable rouching along the  front, back and sleeves.

Psuedo Psummer Psunday

Amazingly, today it got up to 25C (with humidex)! It felt so amazing to be warm outside again. My look today is very ballet-inspired and simple, which is a nice mix of comfort and style for a lazy day of errands and homework. This morning/early afternoon was very gray, gloomy and quite cold so I dressed for the weather in the sweater, body suit and jeans. When I went to go take outfit photos, the sweater was just too warm and I couldn't wait to get out of it. It's a wonderful feeling - the heat of the sun - that I have so sorely missed this past winter. My apologies for what appears to be a light leak in the photos; it is not a light leak, but a small branch that does not appear in the photo preview on my camera.
